Manufacturer Metro Citcuits Taps RochesterWorks! Resources

Last summer Metro Circuits was expanding and planning to make some new hires. The manufacturer was referred to RochesterWorks! by the City of Rochester for assistance.

“RochesterWorks! was able to inform Metro Circuits of the resources available, which of these were appropriate for the business, and how to take advantage of them,” says Christina Bakewicz, RochesterWorks! Business Services Coordinator.

“This is important because RochesterWorks! can be used as a gateway to understanding government resources that businesses are unaware of or that may otherwise seem inaccessible .”

RochesterWorks! has been supporting Metro Circuits in recruiting new employees and providing training funds, says Burhan Capar, General Manager at the company.

Founded in Rochester in 1974, Metro Circuits is now a division of PJC Technologies Inc. and has 61 local employees. The company manufactures custom printed circuit boards, flexible and rigid-flex circuits in prototype to medium volume production. Its customers are primarily in the defense, aerospace, instrumentation, medical and semiconductor industries.

In one case the company wanted to hire an applicant who did not have the skills needed for the position, Bakewicz says. RochesterWorks! was able to assist with an On-the-Job training grant for $2,280 which provided reimbursement for a portion of the new hire’s wages while he was receiving on-the-job training.

“Training is in progress and things are going well. Both Metro Circuits and the trainee are pleased with the job match,” Bakewicz says.
